Firebird Headlight Question?

my 2000 firebird's headlights open and close just fine but it grinds as soon as the light is opened all the way. its like it trys to keep opening after it cant go any further and thats where the grind comes in. it closes and makes no sound at all. i replaced the plastic gear inside the headlight motor last night and it still does this today. Any comments would be appreciated
