87 firebird trans am 305eng 700r4 trans?

i installed a 700r4 from a camaro berlinetta, nt sure what year. i believe it was an 86 nt sure what motor it had. But after i put it in it shift at like 1800 rpm from 1 to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd etc....all the way up. Never goes over 2000rpm unless wide open throttle and sometimes not even 2000 rpm. I never tried manually shifting it. I tried adjusting tv cable. Holding on, then pushing cable into slider lettin go of on then pushing throttle lever on carburator to wot. Still no change. Do i have to change governors or is this from a v6 please help.tell me how to correct this. I dont wanna burn this trans up. Thanks
